Let’s jump into how to make the wall art. First we’ll gather materials, do a little prep work, and then go through the full tutorial.
Gather Materials

Gather the following materials to complete this project:
Prep
This easy DIY project requires only a little prep work. Cut a long piece of twine and tie a bow. Adjust the size to your preference and cut the ends.
How To Make Spackle Pumpkin Wall Art
Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the spackle pumpkin wall art:
Step 1: Make brown spackling
Mix about 2 tablespoons of the white spackling with a drop of brown food coloring. Start with the smallest amount of food coloring, and add more as needed until you get the shade of brown that you like for the pumpkin’s stem. Set this aside for later use in the project.
If you’d like a colorful pumpkin, you can mix orange food coloring into the remaining white spackling.
Step 2: scoop out some spackle

Use a spoon to scoop out a big glob of lightweight spackling. This will be used to create the white pumpkin on the framed canvas wall art.
step 3: form a pumpkin shape

Use the back of the spoon to “paint” the pumpkin. It works best to use up-and-down strokes of the spoon to form the shape of the pumpkin.
Add more spackling as needed. Don’t worry if it seems difficult to form the shape at first, it takes a minute to get used to the spackling, but once you do it becomes second nature.
The pumpkin doesn’t have to be perfect, the strokes and the spackling create texture which adds to the rustic, farmhouse look.
I used only about half the jar of spackling for my pumpkin. Save the rest of the jar, and you can repeat this project for Halloween by making a cute little ghost.
step 4: add the stem

Use the back of the spoon and the brown spackling to form a stem. Using small strokes of the spoon, create texture in the stem.
Be careful not to overlap the white and brown spackling too much, as the brown bleeds into the white a bit.
step 5: Place The Twine Bow

Place the twine bow at the base of the pumpkin’s stem and gently push the bow’s knot into the spackling. This will keep the bow in place.

And there you have it, a beautiful DIY spackle pumpkin that looks store-bought!
How to Style This DIY Wall Art
This cute fall wall art can be hung on the wall or leaned against the wall on a shelf or table. It looks especially good on the kitchen counter, layered with a decorative cutting board, a small vase of fall stems, and some cute pumpkins.
When styling this piece, I recommend sticking to a neutral color palette of white, cream, beige, and brown. If you want more color, try adding in some pastel orange pumpkins.
Conclusion
What I love most about this spackle pumpkin wall art is that it looks so high-end but is truly simple to create.
You can bring this same cozy fall vibe into your home with just a few supplies and a little time. It’s the kind of project that makes your space feel warm and welcoming without breaking the bank.
If you try it, I’d love to know how yours turns out—this is one DIY I know I’ll be displaying year after year!
