Moody Modern Home Office Design
This post is all about my home office design idea.

This home office is giving dark, moody, and seriously sophisticated — think warm wood tones, a statement black bookcase wall, and a rust velvet chair that somehow makes you want to sit down and get to work.
I built the design around the bold statement bookcase. It’s such a dramatic focal point that’s perfect for a moody modern home office.
I’ve linked everything you see in the design below so you can shop the look and bring it to life in your own home. The furniture and decor pieces are from Crate & Barrel, and I’ve also paired four Benjamin Moore paint colors that work beautifully with this room — scroll down to the bottom to see the design with each color on the walls!

Curtains
These curtains are the perfect backdrop — the earthy linen tone lets in just enough light while keeping the room feeling soft and layered. The natural texture adds warmth to the space without being too busy or distracting.
Potted Faux Ginkgo Tree
A tall, airy faux tree is exactly what a moody room like this needs to breathe a little life into it. The simple cream pot keeps it clean, and the leafy branches trailing upward give the corner a fresh, organic feel.
Area Rug
This rug is doing so much heavy lifting — the faded floral pattern in warm beige and taupe ties together every single element in the room.
Large Decorative Box
This large decorative box pairs beautifully with the small box and works well on the bookcase or on the desk.

Marbled Table Decor
With such a large bookcase, decorative elements are a must-have! This one is sophisticated and has a beautiful marbled look.
Staircase Table Decor
Talk about intriguing. This staircase table decor is such a fun piece that’s sure to spark conversation.
Table Lamp
I am obsessed with this lamp — the geometric stacked base is so architectural and interesting, and the warm tone blends perfectly with the desk.
Black Bookcase
This three-panel bookcase is the absolute star of the room — the ribbed column detailing gives it so much texture and drama. I love how the dark finish makes the styled shelves pop, and it doubles as a display wall that actually looks curated rather than cluttered.
Desk Chair
That rust color is everything in this room — it’s the pop of warmth that makes the whole space feel alive. The chunky channeled cushioning makes it look as comfortable as it probably is, and the rolling base keeps it functional for an office space.
Desk
This desk has such a beautiful, warm tone with clean lines and chunky drawer pulls that feel a little vintage.
Paint Color Matches
Choosing a paint color can be one of the most challenging aspects of designing a room. Here are four Benjamin Moore paint color options to give you an idea of how the room could look with different wall colors.
The Benjamin Moore paint color matches for these rooms are:
- Distant Gray
- Baker’s Dozen
- Alexandria Beige
- Mopboard Black
