Soft Blue and Cream Traditional Dining Room Design
This post is all about my dining room design.

This living room design is giving elegant coastal vibes. I feel like I’m in a fancy beach house when I look at it. The upholstered dining chairs take the room to the next level, and the large vase as the dining table centerpiece is a real statement feature. I included some matching plates, napkins, and cups to make it easy to host fancy dinners.
Have you ever wondered what your home decor style is?
I’ve linked everything you see in the design below so you can shop the look and bring it to life in your own home. The furniture and decor pieces are from Pottery Barn, and I’ve also paired four Benjamin Moore paint colors that work beautifully with this room — scroll down to the bottom to see the design with each color on the walls!

Sideboard
This sideboard is such a functional piece. It gives just enough storage while keeping the space feeling light and open.
Matching Plates
These simple dinner and salad plates are perfect for hosting nice dinners; the detail along the trim of each plate makes them feel a little extra elegant.
Glassware
These cups are perfect for everyday use on the dining table.
Grab a few nice wine glasses to have on hand when hosting, or winding down after a long day!
Candles & Candlesticks
These tall brass candlesticks add such an elevated aesthetic to the dining table and sideboard styling.
Dinnerware
A nice dinnerware set makes all the difference!
Curtains
These soft, flowy curtains let in gorgeous natural light. I love how the sheer layer keeps the space feeling bright even with the curtains drawn.
Pendant Light
These pendant lights are one of my favorite details in this whole room. The warm brass hardware paired with the clear glass shade keeps them feeling light.
Greenery Branches
These oversized olive branches were the finishing touch that made this whole room feel complete to me. It adds so much height and life to the center of the table.
Blue Area Rug
This rug was the true starting point for the entire room, and I built every other color choice around it.
Textured Vases
I love grouping a few different ceramic vases together like this for an easy, collected look on the sideboard.
Upholstered Dining Chairs
These chairs are one of my favorite finds for this room, and I love their soft, curved silhouette against the table’s straighter lines. The cream color keeps them versatile while still feeling like a real design statement.
Dining Table
This table is the ideal foundation for the room. It works well with all the colors throughout the room, and matches the sideboard.
Wall Art
This piece was such an easy choice once I found the rug, since it echoes those same soft blue and cream tones. It gives the room a truly coastal feel.
Blue Napkins
The dusty blue napkin ties right back into the rug and keeps the whole tablescape feeling cohesive.
Paint Color Matches
Choosing a paint color can be one of the most challenging aspects of designing a room. Here are four Benjamin Moore paint color options to give you an idea of how the room could look with different wall colors.
The Benjamin Moore paint color matches for these rooms are:
- Dove Wing
- Cocoa Sand
- French Toile
- Hamilton Blue

Conclusion
This is such an elegant dining room design. That blue floral rug pulled the whole thing together in a way I didn’t fully expect until it was all put together, and now I can’t imagine this room without it.
The abstract art above the sideboard picks up every blue and cream tone in the space, and by the time I added the olive branches in that big ceramic vase, this became one of my favorite rooms I’ve designed.
