Moody Olive Green Living Room Design

If you’re like me and have a small living room, this design is a must-see. A few strategic pieces, bold colors and patterns, and varying textures make this room look straight out of a magazine. I designed the room around the green sofa and ottoman, with striking black accents and cozy lighting.

Have you ever wondered what your home decor style is?

I’ve linked everything you see in the design below so you can shop the look and bring it to life in your own home. The furniture and decor pieces are from Crate & Barrel, and I’ve also paired four Benjamin Moore paint colors that work beautifully with this room — scroll down to the bottom to see the design with each color on the walls!

Curtains

These flowy neutral curtains soften the space without taking attention away from the rest of the room. I love how they let in soft natural light while still adding a little texture to the space.

Arched Mirror

This mirror is doing so much work in this room, bouncing light around and making the whole space feel bigger. I really like the soft arched shape against all the straight lines of the console table underneath it.

Decorative Bowl

This little dish is such an easy styling piece that adds texture without cluttering up the console table. I often use pieces like this to fill in small gaps in a vignette.

Deep Red Floral Stems

These faux branches add so much to the console table styling. They add a splash of dramatic color.

Olive Green Sofa

This sofa is really the heart of the whole room, and I fell in love with that deep, muted green the second I saw it. It has such a rich, cozy feel.

Green Ottoman Coffee Table

I love using an ottoman like this instead of a traditional coffee table because it can be so much more functional for everyday life. The subtle striped pattern and turned wood legs add beautiful detail.

Round Green Tray

This tray makes it easy to set drinks or snacks on the ottoman, without them falling over on the soft surface.

Accent Chair

These chairs were such a fun way to bring in a totally different color into the room, and I love how they soften up all that deep green. The swivel base also makes them so practical for actually living in and using the space.

Area Rug

This rug ties every single element in the room together with its warm, muted tones and subtle pattern. It grounds the whole seating area and makes the space feel so much more finished.

Black Console Table

This console table is such a statement piece, and I love how its bold black frame grounds the whole room. It’s simple in shape but makes such a big visual impact against the lighter walls and rug.

Floor Lamp

This floor lamp brings in such a warm, glowing light in the evenings and adds a nice bit of height to that corner of the room. The dark bronze tone works so well with the black accents used throughout the space.

Wall Sconce

I added these sconces on either side of the art to frame it and add a little extra ambient light in the evenings. The sconces would also look great on either side of the console table.

Wall Art

This stunning piece was the finishing touch that tied the whole room together for me. It pulls in the greens, browns, and rust tones from the rest of the room.

Side Table

These little side tables have such a sculptural, organic shape that I couldn’t resist using two of them flanking the sofa.

Dog Figurine

This little sculptural piece adds such a fun, unexpected detail to the console table vignette. It’s a small thing, but it adds a little personality to the styling.

Throw Pillows

This collection of throw pillows adds some pattern and texture to the room, and makes the sitting area feel complete.

Textured Vase

This simple, curved vase adds a soft, earthy aesthetic on the side table.

Picture Frame

I love using a black-and-white photo like this to add a little personal, sentimental feel to the styling. It also helps reinforce the black accents that show up throughout the rest of the room.

Paint Color Matches

Choosing a paint color can be one of the most challenging aspects of designing a room. Here are four Benjamin Moore paint color options to give you an idea of how the room could look with different wall colors.

The Benjamin Moore paint color matches for these rooms are:

  • Icicle
  • Ipanema
  • Smoke Bush
  • Black
